Environmental and Biomedical Sensing
Photonic nanostructures integrated in microsystems are important building blocks for miniaturized sensors. Devices with competitive characteristics (high sensitivity, selectivity, portable, low power consumption) are realized for various applications. The applicability of sensor technology to molecular processes has very important implications to improve public health and environmental monitoring. Highly sensitive and specific detection methods facilitate the identification and characterization at the molecular level of specific biomarkers that can be used to understand the complex behavior that underlies the development of diseases.
